La Aurora Cigars participated in and supported an event that was held last Thursday, June 29th, as the closing event of the tobacco and rum exhibition held by the Dominican Republic Export and Investment Centre (ProDominicana).
Those attending the event had the opportunity to enjoy some of our cigars, La Aurora 115 Aniversario and Fernando León Family Reserve, as well as our Premium E. León Jimenes 110 Aniversario rum. During the event, our master cigar roller, Magdaleno Bonilla, delighted the participants with his art and skill of rolling cigars.
In a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere, ProDominicana presented the contributions of tobacco and rum to the country’s export sector. As part of the exhibition, tastings were held in this culminating activity in which the achievements and development that this sector has undergone, forming part of Dominican culture, were celebrated.
The executive director of ProDominicana, Biviana Riveiro, stressed that these products “are part of the intangible attributes” that define Dominicans. “And outside the country they are letters of introduction that speak of joy, tradition and commitment to quality,” she added.
In her opinion, both rum and tobacco have become in recent years “key items for Dominican exports”. “Between their capacity to generate employment, the leading positions they occupy in various markets and what they contribute to the country’s international image, the opportunities for investment in their products are extremely high,” she added.
La Aurora cigars and rum tasted at the event
Our E. León Jimenes 110 Aniversario rum is a ten year old rum. The rum spends its first eight years in virgin American white oak barrels, which give it most of its flavour, while the last two years are in virgin French oak casks, which give it roundness and consistency.
Rich and complex with exceptional flavour and a vibrant finish marked by sweet, spicy and floral notes that bring out the best in premium cigars, our rum received 97 points from the Beverage Testing Institute, making it a superlative spirit by their expert standards. It also holds the Double Gold Medal at the World Spirits Competition in San Francisco in 2020.
As for the cigars that were tasted during the event, our La Aurora 115 Aniversario is made of a Sumatra wrapper grown in Ecuador, a binder from Brazil and a filler of tobaccos from the Cibao Valley (Dominican Republic), Nicaragua and Brazil. Its smoke exudes notes of black pepper, cinnamon, walnut, citrus and woodiness.
Finally, the Fernando León Family Reserve cigar was the cigar made for Don Fernando, his family and close friends when Don Fernando was alive; today it is available to smokers who know and appreciate an excellent cigar. Its blend is composed of tobaccos from the Cibao Valley (Dominican Republic) in the wrapper, binder and filler, combined with Brazilian tobacco in the latter. Spicy notes, cedar wood and sweet touches are its main aromas.
